Lotus Chinese Learning classes are taught by Mary (ζ’…δΈ½) Field. Mary lived in China for seven years and did her graduate research at a Chinese kindergarten in Anhui province. Mary has her master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from ASU’s Mary Lou Fulton Teacher’s College and is HSK certified in the Chinese language. She has been teaching Chinese in San Antonio since 2015.

Mary studied Mandarin Chinese at several top universities in China, including Suzhou University and China University of Political Science and Law in Beijing. Before coming back to the United States, she was the marketing manager for a consulting company in Shanghai. After returning to the US, Mary found that Mandarin language classes here suffered from the same problems she heard about in China: the content was boring, students had to memorize too many words and teachers focused too much on performances and speech contests.

Knowing that there had to be a better way of teaching Americans Mandarin Chinese, Mary started to research second language acquisition. Lotus Chinese Learning was born from the combination of research into how language learning actually works (hint: it is not learning grammar and memorizing vocabulary) and ten years of experience with Chinese language and culture.

One of the best ways to learn more about Mandarin Chinese classes with Lotus Chinese Learning is to check out the blog. If you are looking for a post to read first, start with this one.
